Some terms explained

These are brief descriptions of some of the problems listed

Anxiety: a feeling of uneasiness, discomfort or anguish, rising at times to be accompanied by bodily symptoms, perhaps sweating or rapid heartbeat as people describe in what are often called panic attacks. For many people what they describe as stress is in fact a persistent level of anxiety.  Overcoming anxiety can be achieved through our hypnotherapeutic and hypnoanalytic programmes.

Depression: a mood, that is, a temporary but relatively sustained and pervasive state of sadness, gloom and pessimism. This is accompanied by loss of interest or pleasure in the things you once enjoyed, and more severely by insomnia, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, diminished ability to think or concentrate, and frequent thoughts of death or suicide.  Psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and hypnoanalysis can provide the way out of this debilitating condition.

Phobia: a persistent, irrational fear of an object, event, activity or situation.   People suffer from such fears in relation to many different things, the most well known being creatures such as spiders and snakes. But other events such as flying or going to social gatherings are for many people what provoke a fearful reaction.  Phobias are based on an anxiety which is targeted upon a particular thing.  Our hypnotherapy programmes help people rid themselves of such phobias.

    Common phobias are fears of:

            • Heights - Acrophobia
            • Flying - Aerophobia
            • Spiders - Arachnophobia
            • Open spaces/ going out/crowds - Agoraphobia
            • Being in enclosed space- Claustrophobia
            • Being sick/vomiting - Emetephobia
            • Visiting the Dentist - Dentophobia
            • Speaking in public - Glossophobia
            • Reptiles or creepy, crawly things - Herpetophobia
            • Snakes - Ophidiophobia
            • Social situations (e.g. meetings, gatherings) - Social Phobia brought on by extreme Social Anxiety.

Self Esteemone’s attitude towards oneself.  How you regard yourself is of critical importance to how you feel in your life and in what you do.  Having a poor view of yourself will lead to depression and anxiety and all the symptoms which these conditions bring on, such as social phobia.

For Women: frigidity:  failure to respond to sexual stimulus; aversion to sexual intercourse; the term is sometimes also used to refer to the failure to experience orgasm during intercourse.

Vaginismus: a tightness of the vagina caused by involuntary (unconscious) contractions in the pelvic muscles, making attempts at intercourse painful or very uncomfortable

For Men:       premature ejaculation - reaching orgasm before you want to; for many men this can mean before intercourse has begun or too soon after commencing intercourse.

erectile dysfunction - being unable to get and/or maintain an erection long enough give you or your partner sexual satisfaction

Social anxiety: a feeling that other people’s disapproval will be incurred by one’s words or actions, along with the concurrent feeling that one’s actions and words must be performed so as to win the approval of other people;  often popularly described as shyness.

Stress: Stress is a negative emotional response with biochemical, physiological, cognitive and behavioural changes which attempt to change the event causing the stress or tolerate the effects brought on by the event or situation.
